Pete’s Greenhouse Fresh is intended to make you feel good in so many more ways than one. You see, Greenhouse Fresh is a champion of sustainability, from how it’s hydroponically grown to the fact that its containers are made with 100% recycled plastic. It’s a shining example of Pete’s commitment to the planet.

Hydroponically greenhouse grown green leaf lettuce. A.K.A. Our Superstar.
Hydroponically greenhouse grown butter lettuce. Sweet. Tender. Sustainable.
You can’t have a ‘green’ product without a ‘green’ process. Our process begins in the greenhouse.
Our greenhouses use 90% less land and water vs. field grown.
Less water… because the water used in our hydroponic systems is captured and reused, rather than simply escaping into the environment. Less land… because our plants can exist in close proximity and their roots do not need to spread out in search of nutrients or moisture.
We don’t triple wash our lettuce. Or use chlorine baths.
Although it might sound convenient, triple washing is anything but convenient for the environment. In fact, it uses a lot of water. All our greens need is one simple rinse at home. That’s it!
Our commitment to a greener future.
We are employee-owned and operated so we all have a stake in the game. This planet stuff is personal. That’s why we are committing 1% of Greenhouse Fresh sales to improving the recycling system in conjunction with the Recycling Partnership. That’s also why we are committed to:
It’s one thing to be recyclable. It’s another to be made from recycled material and then be 100% recyclable. Or in other words, we are reducing greenhouse gas emissions and reducing virgin plastic. Our goal is to prevent new plastic from entering into the world and to promote a circular economy. We also encourage upcycling our packages as something beautiful and/or functional.
In addition, our flexible, resealable closures use less plastic and emit less carbon dioxide than rigid plastic closures.
We know we can always do better, and we are well aware that plastic isn’t perfect. But we’re working on it. Like, really hard.
Greenhouse Fresh containers are 100% recyclable. But first you’re going to want to take off the film which is currently not accepted in the recycling system (we are working to change that!). Next, rinse out the package. It’s also a good idea to contact your local recycling facility to confirm they accept our PET plastic or visit berecycled.com.
Our commitment to the planet is an ecosystem in itself. It starts in the greenhouse and the delicious greens we grow. It continues with our commitment to sustainability. But it doesn’t stop there. We have partnered with 1% For The Planet and pledge 1% of our Greenhouse Fresh sales to The Recycling Partnership.
Through these partnerships, we can work toward improving the recycling system and putting an end to wish-cycling. Not to mention, make more packaging types 100% recyclable.
